They go beyond that, from lifting advice, nutrition tips, supplementation advice, and even moral support from the community.

Bodybuilding.com Whey Protein Review - Powerhouse of a Protein

Bodybuilding.com has a handful of core values they follow that has made them so successful. At the very top of the list, the customer is before anything. They have a single-minded focus to help the customer achieve whatever goals they have set in store.

The numbers BB.com puts up are quite impressive, to say the least. They’ve most certainly evolved when they started from nothing in 1999. DeLuca started Bodybuilding.com in his garage not long after high school. When we run some numbers about the site, it’s phenomenal what he’s accomplished.

In today’s review, we’re looking at the whey protein Bodybuilding.com has in their signature collection. They’re so unique because you can’t buy their products in-store, they’re all online. This may close off a lot of the population from buying their protein, but e-commerce just keeps growing and growing. Will their protein hold up to BB.com’s name? Let’s find out!

Bodybuilding.com Whey Pros

Let’s start by talking about the positives BB.com’s whey protein has in store. I’ve been waiting quite a while to review this protein powder and talk about how good it is. I’ve been drinking it for almost a year, and I think it’s time for a complete review.

Whey Trio

Something exciting about this protein powder is that instead of keeping the powder to one type of whey (isolateconcentrate, or hydrolysate), they have decided to mix all 3 for the ultimate whey protein powder. Each type of whey has its benefits and individual drawbacks. Mixing them all up makes up for their setbacks and also blends their benefits.

It’s common for protein powders to stick to one particular type of whey protein for their entire product. Whether it’s a protein from solely whey isolate or solely whey concentrate, it’s only one. Bodybuilding.com breaks the norm by combining the three into a trio of whey protein.

  • Isolate: Highest amount of protein, 90% of protein isolated.
  • Concentrate: Not as much protein as an isolate, 60%-70%, but contains other nutrients isolated does not contain.
  • Hydrolysate: Protein gone through hydrolysis, it is more easily digested and absorbed faster.

Bodybuilding.com’s whey protein also contains digestive enzymes that help you digest the protein better. Also, it has shown that these enzymes help increase amino acids’ uptake into your bloodstream by 20% compared to whey protein alone. Flavors to Crave Over

Although some sizes may not support every flavor, there are 6 available flavors for the whey protein powder. (Ratings from consumers with each)

  • Chocolate (8.5/10)
  • Mocha Cappuccino (8.8/10)
  • Strawberry (8.8/10)
  • Vanilla (8.9/10)
  • Birthday Cake (9.2/10)
  • Oatmeal Cookie (9.8/10)

Oatmeal Cookie seems to take the cake when it comes to flavors, followed by Birthday Cake itself. People love the available flavors, I tried the chocolate flavor (lowest rating). Even being the lowest-rated flavor out of the bunch, it is pretty tasty. Chocolate is my go-to flavor with any protein powder, and this line did not disappoint, with a sweet chocolatey flavor when mixed with milk.

Transparent Ingredients

The ingredients within the protein powder are transparent, meaning they have nothing to hide. They take pride in their high-quality ingredients, tested, and backed by research to help you achieve your fitness goal.

They want you to know exactly what you are putting into your body when consuming their protein powder. The manufacturers know time-tested, gym-proven ingredients are what people want to get to their fitness goals. They are going to jump on the latest fad of ingredients, if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.

Bodybuilding.com Whey Cons

As you can see, there are a lot of reasons why I love drinking this protein day in and day out. It has so many positive aspects to it that it’s hard to find things it does wrong. However, I did run across one negative aspect about this protein powder.

Gassiness/Bloating

The one thing I did notice when consuming this protein powder, is the immediate bloating I felt after consuming it after my workout, followed by a bit of gassiness. Many whey protein powders leave you with these side effects since they’re a diary, but this signature line left me with a little heavier side effects. It may be because of the milk, but it when soon away after I stopped thinking about it.

This uncomfortable feeling after digestion is due to the lactose in whey protein. Over 65% of the world experience lactose intolerance, a digestive disorder not allowing the full absorption of lactose. This results in side effects like bloating, gassiness, and upset stomach due to the lactose fermenting.

Some people are plagued harder than others with lactose intolerance. For me, it’s not too bad. Just subtle symptoms after consuming dairy, but it’s not anything I can’t handle.

My Experience With Bodybuilding.com Whey Protein

There’s a reason why I’ve been going almost one-year strong drinking this protein powder. It’s amazing! I usually take this whey after my workouts with one scoop in about a 10oz of whole milk. I’ve tried using water instead of milk, and it’s still drinkable, but it’s nowhere near as good as the shake with milk.

So good, in fact, I ranked it best tasting on my top 3 best tasting protein shakes list. The texture, the flavoring, and perfect mixing are all there. As I did mention, I experience some bloating and a good amount of gassiness after drinking BB.com’s whey. To be honest, I didn’t really mind it since it goes away rather quickly.

I bought mine off Bodybuilding.com’s site, and 9 times out of 10, there’s some kind of discount on their protein. I got mine 20% using a code checkout, but every couple days, it changes, maybe higher, maybe lower.

I highly recommend this powder to anybody who’s looking for a whey protein right now. It’s great-tasting, and the results it provides are fantastic if I do say so myself. Link in the conclusion if you’d like to try it out.

Conclusion

In the conclusion of this Bodybuilding.com Whey Protein Review, this protein is a solid choice for anyone looking for protein. The tasty flavors are well worth the money for a complete protein source—the triple whey protein they have made for benefits from whey isolate, concentrate, and even hydrolysate. There may be gassy and bloating side effects, but they’re not to be scared of since they go away rather quickly.

I work in a fitness center and we have a bodybuilding competition coming up.  Is this something you would recommend using for the contestants while they train?

If I were to use it myself, I’m glad that it has different flavors because I don’t think I would like the taste that much.  Which do you prefer?

I highly recommend this supplement for any competitors in a bodybuilding competition, this is a solid protein powder, combining the 3 types of whey. My favorite taste personally is the chocolate, as that is my go-to for any protein. It tastes delicious adding milk instead of water!

Excellent overview of the bodybuilding whey protein powerhouse. To be honest, I have never heard of this supplement before but after I read about it on this platform, I really wish to give it a go. Quality protein supplements are not that available everywhere so when one is found, it should be cherished. Besides, since you’ve tried it out yourself, it gives me more confidence to trust your words and try it too. I like the variety of flavors being made available too. They are good. Thanks for this post

Hey RoDarrick! Yea, BB.com was not messing around when making a signature whey protein. Mixing up all the types of wheys, (isolate, concentrate, hydrolized) brings together all the benefits in one. You won’t be disappointed consuming this protein!

The bloating and gas according to what I read should be because it is protein. It might be that you might have consumed too much of these flavors as protein is known to cause bloating. Consuming much of it most of the time results in this. Of course there are things that can be done to stop or reduce these effects but I would start with not consuming much of these flavors.

Hey Jay! Thanks for letting me know your take on the gas/bloating. I assumed it is because whey is a dairy product and may lead to such side effects when consumed consistently. Maybe the flavors might have something to do with this, interesting observation!

Oh great post, I have been going to the fitness centre taking fitness trainings and I’ve been looking for a good supplements to follow it up. This should be perfect. I’d also go for the chocolate flavour, I should be able to deal with the gassiness. I am on a keto diet, do you think it’s ideal to take this while on the diet?

    • admin

Hey Henderson! This supplement is definitely ideal for a keto diet. The total net carbs in Bodybuilding.com‘s protein powder is 3g, in ONE SCOOP. The low amount of carbs combined with the protein will set you up perfectly into ketosis for a keto diet.

Hi, I used to consume several types of  protein in the market.some good, some not so good. mostly after workout leaves me a bit gassy/bloated. I was recommended this product by my friend as he’s consuming and he is currently satisfy by it. when I look at the photo it suggests that, this product is good but when you honestly explained about side effects -Immediate bloating- first I got discouraged but soon after I realized it would not be a big problem; I will put this into consider and purchase it, then I’ll cut off the milk and enjoy it.
    Thank You
