Kings of the Decade

As we are rapidly approaching 2020, the decade it also coming to an end. It has been an insane ten years, regarding what has been happening outside of supplements. But today’s topic is about supplements, specifically, protein powders. You can imagine how much protein powders have grown since 2010, in terms of ingredients and mixing. But, imagine picking your top 5 throughout the decade who reign supreme above the rest. Which is why I’m here. Here are the best protein powders 2019, that demand respect after the last 10 years, but only one will hold the crown being number one.

Best Protein Powders 2019 - Kings of the Decade

Product: Optimum Nutrition Serious Mass

Price: $56.99

Cheapest Place to Purchase: Bodybuilding.com

Size of Container: 12 lbs.

Protein Per Scoop: 25g

5.) Optimum Nutrition Serious Mass

As the first entry in this list, we’ll start it off with a product to gain some severe types of mass, hence the name. As it may be labeled as a “mass gainer” for say, it is still worthy of being listed on my prodigies of the year. This is Optimum Nutrition’s first product on my list, and it will not be their last. “The way of overcoming your obstacles and reach your achievements is to take this supplement,” and I couldn’t agree more.

If you’re looking to put on some mass and get huge, look no further. Each serving from Serious Mass has a good 1,250 calories, plus 50 grams of protein and over 250 carbs. If that doesn’t sound like a lot to you, then I don’t know what does. Your average protein powder has about 20-30 grams of protein, and the amount of carbs may vary, from low to high.

With that, that wraps up the significant benefits this supplement has to offer. If your goal is not to gain weight and put on a substantial amount of muscle, you may want to move onto something higher up on the list. I can’t really give it too much discredit; it’s not labeled a protein powder, but it is worthy of being placed onto this list for the hard gainers, individuals with metabolisms too fast to properly keep on any weight. This is a reliable product by ON none the less, even the container foreshadows that you’re going to gain size, it’s 12 pounds for heaven’s sake. It’s massive, along with how you’ll be after taking this. With that being said, it is time to move right along.

Product: Mutant Pro Triple Whey Protein Powder

Price: $25.99

Cheapest Place to Purchase: Amazon

Size of Container: 2 lbs

Protein Per Scoop: 24g

4.) Mutant Pro Triple Whey Protein

Now, from a name like Mutant, many will be surprised that the name itself doesn’t take the cake. Trust me, it was hard to resist toping it in front of all the other powders. However, I had to take a more realistic look at the elements this triple whey protein has to offer. Especially at the “triple whey” action, it claims to provide, which is worth taking a look at.

Best Protein Powders 2019 - Kings of the Decade

As the first whey protein on the list, as there will be more, it may not be the man above children, but it is still solid. Mutant Pro’s Triple Whey Protein does not settle for average, it is not about fitting in within the crowd, but to stand out from it. This is the shake to consume after the nastiest of workouts, after the heaviest of lifting sessions. But why take this shake?

The triple whey protein properties, taking benefits from every type of whey. The three examples of whey include isolate, concentrate, and hydrolysate. Keep in mind that this is not the only protein that experiments with the three wise wheys. This combo of whey adds up to 24 grams of protein, and aids in the absorption of amino acids into different phases. The uptake may speed up or go into a delay depending on the timing of amino acids going into your bloodstream. This property provides a new sensation to your post-workout, helping to recover and build muscle.

Moving on into the flavor, you can not forget to take into account the taste of a protein shake, this must be something you enjoy. Lucky for you, Mutant Pro labels this protein powder as having a 100% gourmet taste, above average taste. They only provide four flavors to choose from, which is no means a bad thing, as long as they do the flavoring right.

From the cookies and cream, banana cream, rich chocolate milk, and vanilla milkshake, my pick is the cookies and cream. The only issue I have with this protein is the consistency. For something claiming to be gourmet, I expect it to have no chunks at all after being shaken for a good while. If they fix that, you could see this powder moving up in life. Here on my website, I have an in-depth analysis of Mutant’s whey protein, click here to take a look.

Product: Vega One All-in-One Nutritional Shake

Price: $25.99

Cheapest Place to Purchase: Amazon

Size of Container: 2 lbs

Protein Per Scoop: 20g

3.) Vega One All-in-One Nutritional Shake

As the middle contender of this protein list, a vegan shake must be situated upon this list for our none dairy consumers. But, this isn’t just any vegan protein shake, it’s a versatile shake that just so happens to be vegan. I’m sure that people who aren’t even vegan will take a liking to such a complete protein powder.

When you think of your favorite protein powder, what kind of nutrients does it have to offer? Sounds pretty self-explanatory, protein of course, with a hint of carbs here and there. Nothing to complain about does a stable job of providing protein to your diet. Now, what if I told you about a protein powder that offers just about every nutrient you can think of?

Well, look no further than Vega One All-in-One Nutritional Shake, the answer to the gaps in your diet. Let’s take a look at the 7 elements Vega One’s shake has to offer;

Protein: 20 grams of plant-based protein coming from complete sources like peas, flaxseeds, hemp, and sacha inchi.

Veggies and Green: The shake is quite green, the veggies are in abundance. With vegetables such as organic broccoli and kale, a green vibrancy is exuberated from this container.

Vitamins and Minerals: Every scoop has at least 50% DV of 12 vitamins and minerals made from absolutely real, plant-based food ingredients.

Fiber: From the flax and acacia gum, fiber is contained within the protein, 6 grams per scoop, to be exact.

Antioxidants: The All-in-One shake has some excellent antioxidant properties, including Vitamin A, Vitamin B, and Vitamin C.

Omega-3: Can’t forget about fats, especially the essential ones. Omega-3 ALA is found in the protein coming from chia, flax, and hemp.

With this type of shake, you only wonder if it has any kind of drawbacks. After taking a look at the positive, I think it’s time to delve into a bit of the negative. The biggest negative the made itself apparent to me instantly as soon as it touched my mouth was the taste. Some people honestly don’t have any grudges against the feeling that Vega all in one nutritional shake has in store, but it’s a no-go for me.

The flavor is very chalky, not very appetizing for your taste buds, at least for mine. It also doesn’t help that the powder doesn’t mix very well in the solute you’re using. Expect to see some chunks here and there in your shake even after a good couple shakes. That’s probably my biggest gripe with this protein powder, even chocolate can’t also save its flavoring.

In the end, however, it is a matter of preference. Some people really do enjoy the gritty, chalky taste of this shake. These same individuals might rank the All-in-One shake number one on their protein list, which is totally fine. But on this list, it ranks square in the middle, at number three. As for this protein, I have a very green analysis on Vega One’s protein, take a look!

Product: Optimum Nutrition 100% Gold Standard Whey Protein

Price: $30.00

Cheapest Place to Purchase: Bodybuilding.com

Size of Container: 2 lbs

Protein Per Scoop: 24g

2.) Optimum Nutrition 100% Gold Standard Whey Protein

As the staple protein powder for many athletes, lifters, and regular people for that matter, it may seem very bold to have this placed at number 2 on the list, you may call it not the king, but the “prince” of protein powders. As the last step before the king, this protein is by no means a mediocre protein powder. There’s only one reason, which breaks it for me and specifically for me, to why Optimum Nutrition can’t take the throne this year.

Before going into why it isn’t first, let’s see why it is second. Gold Standard, 100% Whey, is a blend of mainly whey isolate and a hint of ultra-filtered whey concentrate. The two properties combine to produce a total of 24 grams of protein, very solid. There’s a reason why ON proclaims their brand with the Gold Standard, they set the bar. They achieve four things for your body;

The fellas at ON advise mixing the protein in a cup of water or milk. (Milk does it for me) However, you can go a lot farther than shakes with ON’s creation. On the site, they have tons of recipes where you can transform a lot of foods into a protein-packed snack. Just take a look at some of these scrumptious options;

Let’s say you want the shake, not interested in any recipes or food options. Which is totally fine because ON has you covered for days. I counted a total of twenty-three flavors in total to choose from, from one single whey protein powder. That’s pretty unheard of, I like a variety with my tastes, I’d be okay with ten, but I’m not complaining about more than twenty. Plus, the shakes produce little to no bloating after drinking, which is marvelous. Take a peek at the extensive list;

Best Protein Powders 2019 - Kings of the Decade

Optimum Nutrition’s Gold Standard Whey is an excellent protein powder, worthy as the number one supplement option for many people. However, it’s time to discuss this minuscule issue of why Optimum Nutrition does not reign supreme this year, it has to do with the flavor. I mentioned that they’re plenty of flavors to choose from. I know myself pretty well, I am strictly a chocolate man when it comes to protein powders. And ON provided a purely chocolate protein for the longest time, which was my go-to…until they discontinued the flavor

After running out of my last container of chocolate protein, I searched for a refill of my desired flavor but failed to find it. The only alternative taste in the line was the “double rich chocolate,” which does not do it for me; it’s too chocolatey in a sense, hence the name. I was heart-broken, my favorite flavor was taken away from me, starting my journey for a new powder.

With that, Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein could have reached first, if it wasn’t for a protein powder that I fell in love with this year looking for a new powder to fill the supplement void in my heart. If you’d like more information on the prince of proteins, check this out.

Product: Bodybuilding.com Signature Whey Protein

Price: $49.00

Cheapest Place to Purchase: Bodybuilding.com

Size of Container: 5 lbs

Protein Per Scoop: 25g

1.) Bodybuilding.com Signature Whey Protein

As the signature whey protein powder of the founders of Bodybuilding.com, it is the top dog of supplementation in 2019. This is my favorite protein all around, it is a fantastic protein powder. It does something that most protein powders dare not to experiment with, a whey protein blend.

Many protein powders stick to any one type of whey, whether that being isolate, concentration, or hydrolysate. Companies are too afraid to experiment with more than one whey, although some do get it right. Mixing two whey’s seems complicated enough, but blending all three? Well, the geniuses over at Bodybuilding.com have figured it out.

Best Protein Powders 2019 - Kings of the Decade

While it is mostly whey isolate,13 grams, it also contains 6 grams of concentrate and 6 grams of hydrolysate, adding up to 25 grams of substantial protein. BB.com states that “whey protein is the most important weapon in your muscle-building arsenal,” and I couldn’t agree more. The individual wheys are described with their own benefits;

Whey Isolate: Great for low-carb diets, low in fat, and easily digested.

Whey Concentrate: Concentrate has a more balanced amount of proteins, carbs, and fats to fuel your workouts.

Whey Hydrolysate: This whey protein has been hydrolyzed, or broken down into strings of amino acids called peptides, for even faster absorption than standard whey!

Along with their mixture of wheys, this protein powder has absolutely nothing to hide. They have every ingredient on display for the consumers to see. On the ingredient label, BB.com is entirely transparent, not afraid of anyone knowing their parts, so people know exactly is going into their bodies.

Not only is the protein powerful, it’s power with a great taste. Out of the six flavors, this protein has to offer, my favorite and the one I think is the best, an excellent chocolate flavor. I personally add whole milk to my protein powder, and it adds for a creamy and delicious protein shake that not many other powders can compete with. Even if chocolate isn’t your go-to flavor for protein, I guarantee there will be a flavor for you. BB.com has a rating for each of their tastes shown below;

The only minor downside I have experienced with my favorite protein is the quick bloating I experience not too long after drinking my shake. You get that full-ish feeling in your stomach, which doesn’t always feel too high. But typically, the bloating goes away soon after, which I can’t say for some other proteins, unfortunately.

One last great thing about this protein is that you always catch it on sale at BB.com more times than not. The dudes over at that site will, of course, hook up consumers with great deals on their supplements, like “buy 1, get 1 half-off” or even “20% off any product storewide,” along with any coupons they might have lingering around.

If you want t know more about the king, check out this review.

Conclusion

It’s safe to say, BB.com Signature Whey Protein is the king of protein powders this year, and will most definitely compete for the title for 2020. The other contenders of protein powders also have good chances for winning the crown, but they’re going to have to work for it. Companies must try what their competitors aren’t doing to stay ahead of each other, only time will tell who is going to win.

Do you agree with my list? Leave a comment down below if you have any questions, or who you think might take the crown next year in protein supplementation. The future is always bright when it comes to protein powders.
